The Mile High Freedom Bands is happy to announce the appointment of Cayley Buie as Assistant Artistic Director and Director of MHFB Corps. Dr. Shawn Williams is being promoted to Associate Artistic Director. Both appointments are effective immediately.

MHFB Artistic Director Derek Hebert said, “I am so happy to welcome Cayley on board the MHFB artistic team! I’ve known her for years and can say with certainty that she is a great music educator and will be a wonderful addition to our staff. As we come out of the pandemic year and return to the streets, I know that MHFB Corps is in great hands.”

MHFB Board President Drew LaBonne said, “As the Mile High Freedom Bands and MHFB Corps emerge from the global pandemic year, we are very excited to hit the streets and bandstands under the leadership of our new Assistant Director, Cayley Buie! In recent years, MHFB Corps marching and pep bands have participated in over 10 events each year and is always a crowd favorite at the Denver Pride Parade! Cayley brings years of marching experience and a passion for the community that will surely engage, excite, educate, and entertain audiences along the parade routes and at various events throughout the year!”


Cayley Buie’s Bio

Cayley Buie joined MHFB Winds as a trumpet player in January 2016 and participated for the season before taking off to live in Kumamoto, Japan teaching English through the JET program for one year. When she returned, she rejoined MHFB and has been playing in Winds ever since. She has also be a frequent participant with MHFB Swing and MHFB Corps. In 2021, Cayley was appointed the Assistant Artistic Director of MHFB and the Director of MHFB Corps.

Cayley received her double Bachelors in Music Education and Bachelors in Arts in Japanese from the University of Colorado- Boulder in December, 2015. She began teaching at Adams City High School in 2017. At Adams City High School, she teaches Jazz, Marching Band, Concert Band, Drumline, and two orchestra classes. She has taken a program struggling from administrative turn-over in the school and created a program that the students love and want to be a part of. Cayley has also volunteered at El Sistema Colorado since summer 2021 and performs on trumpet with the Flatirons Jazz Orchestra in various locations around the Denver Metro Area.
