Gary Hoffman

Gary Hoffman joined MHFB in early 2015 and in September of that year, was appointed Associate Artistic Director of the Mile High Freedom Bands.  He is the associate conductor of Freedom Winds and principal conductor of Freedom Swing.  Gary also serves as an ex-officio member of the MHFB Board of Directors.

Gary  received Bachelor and Master of Music in Education Degrees from the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University, Youngstown, Ohio. There, he also completed post graduate work in Education Administration.  His teaching career spanned 30 years including 23 years as a High School Band Director and later as an education administrator, retiring as Director of Secondary Education at the Trumbull County Career and Technical Center.  His high school bands consistently achieved Superior and Excellent ratings at the district, state and national levels with notable performances at the Ohio Music Education Association State Convention; the Ohio State University Marching Band Invitational; Orange Bowl Parade, Miami, Florida; Cincinnati Bengals halftime; Cotton Bowl Parade, Dallas, Texas; Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival Parade and music festivals in Toronto, Virginia Beach and Nashville.  As a member of the Ohio Music Education Association, he was quite active throughout the state as an adjudicator for concert bands and solo and ensemble competitions and was an honorary member of the American School Band Director’s Association.

Prior to being named Associate Artistic Director of the Mile High Freedom Bands, Gary served as Assistant Director of the South Florida Pride Wind Ensemble, Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he also served as a band and woodwind clinician in many area schools.  There he was also a founding member and Vice President of the Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida.  Gary and his husband of 29 years Ron Bull, now reside in Denver where he remains active in music as a music clinician.
